2006 Ca' del Solo Nebbiolo (nehb-byoh-lo) $35 per bottle / $378 per case $29.75 per bottle / $336 per case (Members)
Our 2006 Nebbiolo is indubitably a classic with powerful structural tones evocative of the limestone hillside "crus" of Piemonte. Like the fabled iron-fist-in-the-velvet-glove, our 2006 vintage is redolent of dried fruits and herbs, and packed full of zingy intensity. The wine is very light clear red with brilliant orange highlights. A floral perfume of anisette, sage, and wild roses gives way to savory scent of saddle leather, tea, and spice. Smooth on the palate but with lively acidity, it offers flavors of dried fruits, earth, and spice with velvety tannins. Enormously food friendly, especially with herb-infused meats and game.* Winemaker Notes Our third vintage of this single-vineyard varietal wine from Ca' del Solo in Monterey was hand harvested sorted, then aged in 50% wood tank and 50% four year-old French oak puncheons, with one puncheon's worth of dried nebbiolo added for extra depth and complexity. This is a wine that will repay aging many times over (10-15 years) and appreciates a gentle decanting.
