(Dis)location, location, location. The otherworldliness of some wines is what makes them so compellingly interesting, whether they’re local or from “not around here.” This cuvée was jointly conceived by Randall Grahm of Bonny Doon Vineyard and Tylor Field of Morton’s Steakhouse to complement the ingestion of bovine, ovine, or porcine parts, especially those that have been roasted or grilled. The grapes for this wine derive from primarily terrestrially sourced, very old, dry-farmed vineyards in Contra Costa County. Mourvèdre imparts a wonderfully doon-to-earth exuberant funkiness, and carignane explosive rock and raspberry; the other components of the blend add a certain je ne sais quoi. Vital Statistics: Blend: 43% mourvèdre, 37% carignane, 10% grenache, 5% petite sirah, 3% zinfandel, 2% syrah Appellation: Contra Costa County Alcohol by Volume: 13.8% Serving Temp: 55-60ºF TA: 0.66 g/100 ml pH: 3.60 Cellaring: 2-7 years from release (Apr. 2011) Production: 695 cases
