Farmed biodynamically, a wondrous blend of grenache and roussanne from a single vineyard source, the Beeswax Vineyard in the Arroyo Seco region of Monterey County.
92 POINTS, Wine Enthusiast: “Fresh-flowing blood, dried Italian herbs and cured cuts of meat greet the nose on this annual Bonny Doon treat, a blend of 28% Syrah, 22% Grenache, 17% Cinsault, 17% Mourvèdre and 16% Carignane. The flavors are dominated by purple fruits, trending toward blackberry and blueberry, with violet florals and rustic dust."
92 POINTS, Vinous
En demi-muid, or puncheon - Aged primarily in 500 and 600 liter barrels (this is a little more than twice the size of a conventional barrel)
En foudre - Aged in 10,000 liter upright wood tanks
“A classic Bien Nacido Syrah with its smoky dark fruit, mineral and pepper-driven bouquet, the 2009 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard X Block (100% Syrah aged 20 months in French oak puncheons) is medium to full-bodied, beautifully fruited and has a focused, pure feel on the palate. Outstanding juice, it should drink nicely through 2019. Drink now-2019.” -Jeb Dunnuck, August 2013
A re-release of one of the most elegant and complex vintages of Cigare in recent memory.
92 points Wine Enthusiast
Peppery and lively with good acidity around an earthy, savory core.
The '06 Cigare shows the family flavor profile of red fruits, herbal, and earthy notes in a savory medium-bodied package. But it is quite a different wine!
The 2004 is an aleph of light and dark notes; vibrant, fruity and floral notes contrasted against a denser, darker core rarely seen in preceding Cigares.
