Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Beautiful, deep violet robe, not quite saturated color, but nary a trace of rust. First nose is peppermint, cherries, and of course deep, loamy earth—almost the scent of decaying leaves. What I’ve loved best about the Cigare Réserve wines is their texture—utterly seamless and sleek, and secondarily, their quality of umami, no doubt a function of the glutamate released from the autolysis of yeast cells during the élevage. The wine has a very satisfying richness, an aura of confident power and authority, but it is in noway overbearing.
93 points - “Round, sultry and savory with notes of blackberry, boysenberry, cherry, dried herbs, leather and mushroom." | 90 points, Wine Enthusiast - "Randall Grahm's reserve version of this 37% Mourvèdre, 34% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 9% Cinsault blend is a bit shy on the nose before revealing boysenberry, asphalt, sesame, soy and an ever-so-slight barnyard twist. The palate shows lots of verve but not much overt fruit, with flavors that are tarry but not overly tannic and a great finish of purple flowers." - Matt Kettmann, Mar. 2016
91 points - “This ruby colored red blend opens with an oak and black cherry bouquet with a hint of strawberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and very approachable. The flavor profile is a smoky oak influenced red plum with notes of minerality. I also detected hints of mild red raspberry and blueberry. The finish is dry and its dusty tannins and fruit flavors are nicely prolonged. This wine is very food friendly and would pair with many meals. I would choose Bon Appetit's ultimate bolognese sauce served over pappardelle." Ken's Wine Guide, Ken Hoggins.

Food Pairing Notes
I wish I could propose a vast range of dishes to pair with this special wine, but it is a lonely warrior and best stands alone, possibly consoled by an extremely large wedge of Stilton cheese.
