Mark your calendars now! Day of the Doon will be hosted on Saturday, September 16th, and we will be celebrating in great style.

The event (in its fifteenth iteration!) will be held for the sixth time at Randall Grahm’s San Juan Bautista Estate Vineyard and Farm, Popelouchum. It will be a magical late afternoon and evening affair. Guests will have a guided tour of the Popelouchum Estate, as well as partake of library wine bottlings.

Randall Grahm said, “Day of the Doon events have always been perhaps a bit theatrical, but the intent of recent years’ celebrations has been to set aside theatricality for its own sake. Sharing Popelouchum with our dear friends, we proclaim our unremitting dedication to the discovery of the terroir of this very special place, and to letting the land speak in its own unique voice."

We are so excited to continue to host this event at Popelouchum (the Mutsun language word the Ohlone natives historically used to denote the general vicinity of the site, its secondary meaning “paradise"), representative the fulfillment of a grand dream of a vin de terroir. It is hard to express how utterly magical the place is - you will have to see for yourself the amazing energy of this unique site.

This year, we are pleased to partner with the acclaimed Nopalito, whose vibrant Mexican kitchens celebrate the traditional cookery of Mexico. Nopalito's philosophy mirrors our own, championing local, organic and sustainable ingredients.



*** We will be outside at Popelouchum, so be sure to dress in comfortable walking shoes with good traction and BRING WARM CLOTHING (the layered look is always the way to go), sun hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen as well. ***

Wine Club Members $135*

* Members: You may purchase up to three additional tickets at your discounted wine club price.

Ticket prices are inclusive of wine club member discount. Price includes an exclusive Popelouchum farm product and other special surprises. Space is limited. Remember, it's 21 and up to attend our biggest event of the year.

The passed appetizers and multi-course feast will be heavily dictated by the seasonal bounty of our garden at Popelouchum. The below is subject to change based on seasonality. 

Passed Appetizer Reception:

Tostaditos Rojos con Chicharrón - Mulato chile-corn tostada, crispy pork belly, salsa cascabel, queso fresco, onion & cilantro 

Albondigas al Chimole - Bite-size Morris Grassfed meatballs with charred chile salsa & pickled onions

Taco Dorados - Crispy rolled tortillas with a seasonal filling, guacamole, crema, queso fresco, cilantro & salsa

Family-style Dinner:

First Course

Ceviche Verde & House-made Chips - Lime-marinated fish with tomatillo, jalapeno, cilantro & avocado 

Second Course

Popelouchum Salad -Seasonal produce from our garden with queso fresco, chile & lime

Main Course

Birria de Res - Morris Grassfed beef stewed in ancho chiles, roasted tomatoes, sesame seeds, spices, pickled onion, cilantro & salsa de arbol 

Vegetarian Main Course

Calabacitas a la Mexicana - Roasted summer squash, tomato, onion garlic, crema, queso fresco & cilantro

Sides

Seasonal vegetables and beans from the garden

Homemade tortillas

Dessert

Flan - Rich, traditional Mexican custard with caramel & Popelouchum strawberries 

Wine pairings and special library reserve wines to be announced and will be available for Wine Club Member purchase by the bottle and case throughout the event and shipped gratis from the Mothership in Santa Cruz in the days following the event.


ACCOMMODATIONS:

Our room block at Hacienda de Leal is now full, and the hotel is fully booked for the night of the 16th. Our other recommendation, Joshua Inn, is also full. 

We now recommend the very newly opened Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriot in nearby Hollister.
