La Bulle-Moose de Cigare Flat (24 cans)
Wine Club Members: $115.20*
La Bulle-Moose (Alces fizzicus) is a species known for its exceptional friendliness, its ebullient personality, perhaps not so much for its exceptional intelligence or common sense. But it can sniff out a party. La Bulle-Moose de Cigare, fizzy and pink is made from Grenache (57%), Grenache Blanc (18%), Mourvèdre (9%), Roussanne (6%), Carignane (5%), Cinsaut (5%). Relatively pale in color with a subtle fragrance of strawberry, rose petal and garrigue, La Bulle-Moose is an elegant (and oh so intelligent) choice of beverage for virtually any occasion, including, say ones involving the ingestion of sushi or barbecue or participation in outdoor sports or indoor sports or birdwatching or ice-sculpture or moosle-building, moosturizing, moostache-trimming, moosaic construction, etc. Particularly useful food pairings: moossaka, moozarella crostini, moosseline de poisson, tarte au pamplemoose and of course the classic chocolate moose. Enjoy its ebullience!
This wine began life as a batch of Vin Gris de Cigare, that is to say, fermented in stainless steel, and held on its lees post-ferment and subject to rigorous and systematic bâtonage (lees-stirring). The wine was carbonated just prior to canning to a refreshing degree of fizziness just below the legal threshold (.392 g/100 ml of CO2 ) of the confiscatory/onerous sparkling/ luxury wine tax. (While it is thoroughly plausible to claim that sparkling or even “fizzy” wines tend to make people experience a momentary relief from their worldly troubles, it does not necessarily follow that the experience of this momentary pleasure should perforce be taxed at a rate significantly higher than beverages that do not enjoy an equivalent level of effervescence, i.e. “table wine.” The Puritans remain with us still, as it were.. )

Wine Enthusiast - 90 points. "This bubbly pink blend is one of the better canned wines on the market, regardless of style. A blend of 57% Grenache, 18% Grenache Blanc with bits of Mourvèdre, Roussanne, Carignan and Cinsaut, it shows rounded watermelon, nectarine and grapefruit-rind aromas on the nose. The palate is crisp with strawberry, melon, red-apple and tart plum-skin flavors."—M.K. (Sept. 2018)
Wine Spectator - 84 Points. "A straightforward quaff, with modest cherry and spice flavors. Drink now. 2,700 cases made."—T.F. (May 2018)
Planet Grape - 88 Points. "Crisp, fruity and lightly fizzy with notes of apricot, honeydew melon, strawberry, raspberry and violet candy." - C.F. (May 2018)
Bloomberg, "Eight American Sparkling Wines for a Festive Fourth of July" - "Winemaker Randall Grahm has been producing idiosyncratic wines from Rhône grape varieties near California’s Santa Cruz for almost 40 years. This spring, Grahm released his first canned wine, a very lightly fizzy take on the delicate strawberry-scented Le Cigare Volant rosé that made his name. Consider it ready-made for a boat or beach cooler."
Star Tribune, "The best wines — in a box or can — for a Minnesota picnic party" - "Bonny Doon’s Randall Grahm is a delightful, delirious combination of playfulness and serious blending chops. His La Bulle-Moose de Cigare Fizzy Pink of the Earth contains grenache, grenache blanc, mourvèdre, rousanne and carignan. The layers of flavors will play well with robust barbecue sauces, burgers and brats."
